Poseidon sits about as close to the water as a restaurant on Jaz Beach can get. The main terrace is a covered deck above the sunbeds, edged with glass so nothing gets between your table and the sea, and on a clear day the view runs along the coast to the mountains and headlands. Below, rows of straw umbrellas run down to the shoreline.
Shade is the other thing it does well. Next to the sea-view deck is a long pergola terrace under old, twisting trees, with mosaic columns, white furniture and enough canopy to stay cool at midday. There is also a bright indoor dining room in blue and white with rattan chairs, and a more casual corner by the boardwalk with wooden tables under a reed roof, marked by an old ship’s anchor. The kitchen is Mediterranean, and prices are fair for a spot right on the beach.
The restaurant belongs to a hotel, and that is worth knowing if you are deciding where to base yourself. Staying here puts one of the best beaches near Budva right outside your door and keeps you out of the summer crush in town and in Bečići. The trade-off is distance: Jaz is a few kilometres west of Budva, so plan on a car or taxis for anything beyond the beach.
Out of peak season it is especially easy to like. Come for a long lunch, take the shade, and walk off to the quieter end of Jaz Beach afterwards.
